Arguments Proving the Bible is the Embodiment of a Divine Revelation

The Argument from the Fulfillment of Prophecy

God revealed the future through the prophets. The writers of scripture had access to Supernatural Intelligence. Old and New Testament prophecies have been fulfilled. Such prophecies include2

  1. Israel’s dispersion. (Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Jeremiah 15:4; 16:13; Hosea 3:4)
  2. The overthrow of Samaria and the preservation of Judah. (1 Kings 14:15; Isaiah 7:6-8; Hosea 1:6f)
  3. The fall of Judah and Jerusalem to the Babylonians. (Isaiah 39:6; Jeremiah 25:9-112)
  4. The finality of Samaria’s destruction. (Micah 1:6-9)
  5. The restoration of Jerusalem. (Jeremiah 29:10-14)
  6. The naming of Jerusalem’s restorer. (Isaiah 44:28; 45:1)
  7. The overthrow of Babylon by the Medes and Persians. (Isaiah 21:2; Daniel 5:28)
  8. The rebuilding of Jerusalem and the Temple. (Isaiah 44:28)
  9. Those concerning the Gentile nations. (Isaiah 13-23; Jeremiah 46-51)
  10. The increase of knowledge and travel in the last days. (Daniel 12:4)
  11. The increase of wickedness. (2 Timothy 3:1-13)
  12. Wars and rumors of wars. (Matthew 24:6f)
  13. The preservation of a remnant of Israel. (Romans 11:1-5,25-32)
  14. The stirring of dry bones and their return to national and spiritual life. (Ezekiel 37:1-28)

Fulfillment of these prophecies prove the Bible is a concrete revelation from God.

Scriptural examples1 of the Argument from the Fulfillment of Prophecy

  1. “Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I the lord make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream.” Numbers 12:6.
  2. “when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.” Deuteronomy 18:22.
  3. “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.” Acts 2:17.
  4. “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?” Romans 10:14,15a.
