Theism: Belief in God

The Existence of God

Men know God exists because

  1. The Holy Spirit told men of His existence through Bible writers.
  2. Jesus declared Him.
  3. Men have seen parts of Him.
  4. Men have heard His voice.

The Holy Spirit told men of God's existence through Bible writers. The Holy Spirit is the author of the Bible. He inspired writers of individual Bible Books to write what they wrote. (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:19-21) Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God…" By this statement, the Holy Spirit is telling men of God’s existence.

Jesus declared God to men. Apostle John wrote, "No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him." John 1:18 Because Jesus declared Him, men know God exists.

Men have seen parts of God. Moses desired to see God's glory. (Exodus 33:18) God showed him His hind part, but not His face. (Exodus 33:19-23) Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy elders of Israel saw God's feet. (Exodus 24:10)

Men have heard the voice of God. Peter, James and John heard God's voice on the Mount of Transfiguration. (Matthew 17:1-5; 2 Peter 1:16-18) God's voice was heard from Heaven after Jesus baptized by John the Baptist. (Matthew 3:16-17) The voice of God was also heard by a multitude and the multitude thought it thundered. (John 12:28-29)
