Eschatology: The Doctrine of Last Things

The Fate of the Wicked

  1. The Wicked will Die in their Sins.
    1. God the Father sent Jesus into the world to be the propitiation3 for the sins of mankind. (1 John 2) Since Jesus is the propitiation for sin, there is no other way for mankind to be reconciled to God the Father. (John 14:6) Therefore, persons who do not receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord will die in their sins. (They will not be regenerated. John 8:21,24)
  2. The Wicked are not Annihilated.4
    1. Man is spirit, soul and body. A spirit is an eternal being. It cannot be annihilated. Man is spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:11) Therefore, man cannot be annihilated.
  3. The Wicked will be Punished.
    1. The wicked will be punished for not obeying the gospel. (2 Thessalonians 1:8,9) This means the wicked will be punished for not receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (John 3:18)

The fate of the wicked is:

  1. Eternal. (2 Thessalonians 1:8,9; Revelation 14:11)
  2. Punishment. (2 Thessalonians 1:8,9)
  3. The Lake that Burns with Fire and Brimstone. (Revelation 20:10,15)
