Our Health and God's Word
Introduction

by Dr. Reve' M. Pete

"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." 3 John 2

In 3 John 2, Apostle John is expressing his desire for Christians to be in health as their souls prosper. The word health comes from the Greek word hugiaino (pronounced hoog-ee-ahee-no). It means "to be sound in body".1 The prosperity of a Christian’s soul is directly related to his walking in truth. Jesus defined truth as the Word of God. (John 17:17) Therefore, the health of Christians is directly related to their walking in the Word of God.

The Word of God also teaches man is a three-element being -- spirit, soul and body. Apostle Paul stated this as he disclosed his prayer for the saints at Thessalonica. He wrote,

"Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thessalonians 5:23

3 John 2 and 1 Thessalonians 5:23, reveal man’s overall health and well being is dependent on

  1. His relationship with God.

  2. The condition of his spirit.

  3. The condition of his soul.

  4. The condition of his body.
