Growing In Christ:
A Thirteen-Week Follow-Up Course for New and Growing Christians

If You Sin Confess It

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and jus to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

One of the tricks of our adversary, Satan, is to make us doubt God's love and forgiveness after we have failed Him. Satan tries to make us think that because of our failure, the door to God has been permanently shut, never to be opened again. This is not true.

God's plan for the born again believer is to continue in fellowship with Him. If we sin, He is ready, willing and able to pick him up and get us started again. For this to be done, the first thing we must do is confess the sin to God. God will forgive us only if we ask His forgiveness.

We should not wait to restore a broken relationship with God. One cause of delay is restoring the relationship is guilt. Sin brings guilt. Guilt paralyzes us so that we feel God will not forgive us. We must not dwell on feelings of guilt, but trust in God's love and forgiveness to restore us after we confess the sin to Him. The Blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness.

As believers, it is good to ask God's forgiveness as a part of our daily prayers. That way, we can keep our relationship with Him secure.

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13,14 KJV
